I think we just broke in, but I'm going to make sure it's clean and everything before we go. They aren't using it right now anyway.

Neither do we. We have magic scrolls, or we can write letters, but that's about it.

We have cell phones, but they're bigger and you can't really wear them like this. Mine does a lot of fancy stuff but that's just because my friend who's a scientist upgraded it.

I'm still working on finding a job. People look at me funny when I tell them my previous work experience involved sports.

Humans are weird about sports sometimes. Most people who do sports for a job are adults. Plus I guess they might want to know where you played?

I do Ink Battles, which no one really seems to know.

I don't either. What are they?

They're two teams of four battling to complete an objective. The simplest one is Turf War, where your team needs to claim the most turf. Then there's Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker. Those are tougher and need more strategy.

That's neat! It sounds like maybe capture the flag or paintball? You could tell them you played it in another country or something.

Yeah, we're okay! I got a job cleaning at this restaurant. They said I was too short for most of the other jobs but it's fine.

Are you nocturnal? Or did you live underground or something?

Yes, trolls are nocturnal! The sun on my planet can be deadly to my kind, but the nights are also very long.

The sun here is less burning, but it's still hard on my eyes.

That's cool! A lot of the monsters who used to live underground had trouble with the sun when they came up. Some of them decided to be nocturnal too! They weren't really before because there wasn't much of a day and night, but it worked out.

Maybe you can get some really good sunglasses and a hat.

Trolls live underground when they are first hatched. It's not until years have gone that they rise to the surface. My raising was different, though, because my guardian was a rare day walker.

I would like to meet these monster friends.

I do have sunglasses now. I find the clothing here very interesting.

They all used to live underground, but that's just because they were trapped there. Most of them grew up underground because they were there for so long. But now everybody lives together on the surface.

The clothes here are weird. I know some people back home who would like it though. Do the sunglasses help a lot?

I got a job, but I've kinda been surfing on couches lately.

I know how to mop and clean tables. Sometimes they make me do dishes.

I told them I was 13. You have to be maybe 16 to get a job at home but I guess it's different here.

This place is strange, I know. But no one ever asked why are you so short for a 13 year old?
