10 Ways to Dress Like Pao-Lin

By: Sayes Tudadres

The precious percussionist in Flowers Over Bones, Pao-Lin Huang, always appears dressed for the occasion. Each outfit is the epitome of girlish class. But how can you snag some of that look for your own without breaking the bank? Here are some tips.

1. Aster aster aster

Starting with her signature flower, no outfit of yours will be complete without the blossom on your person. Flowers Over Bones has their official merchandise, but those looking for a more frugal option can take a trip to your local craft store and buy some silk flowers and hair pins to make your own.

2. Know your colors

Flowers Over Bones often themes their outfits with solid neutrals and using their "color" as accents. For Pao-Lin's look, you'll want to stick with purple accents. Don't go overboard. You'll make more of a statement with less.

3. So sweet you'll get cavities

You can never go wrong with adding some cutesy depictions of cookies and candy. The simplest way to add this to your wardrobe by using patches or buttons. Marie's sells these in packs of ten. Share with your friends.

4. Bring on the meat!

Meat bun fascinator hat that is. The ravenous appetite of Pao-Lin hasn't been missed. While sweets fit her image, she's known eating various foreign foods. Meat buns and gyoza make the perfect little fascinator and talking point. Take a little plush and sew it to a hairband. Glossy black eyes will up the cuteness, and you'll turn heads.

5. Lace ain't just for maids

Lace trim is easy to add. Craft stores sell lace trim by the yard and in various colors. (Try using some purple for your accents.) Sew these on or try using iron-on webbing.

6. So sweet you'll get cavities: Part Two

All the candy you have with you doesn't need to be fake or for fashion. During the Vista Music Industry Award Gala, Pao-Lin sported a large skull shaped lollipop. With special molds, you can have a custom pop for every occasion.

7. Don't forget casual

Pao-Lin doesn't just wear fancy dresses. She also takes a more casual look with character themed outfits. She'll dress down with a simple hoodie with cute cartoon bears on them and a frilly skirt. Take a stuff animal, split the seams, insert a fabric lining, and add a chain to make your own plush purse.

8. Don't forget classy

Gothic Lolita is a style that she often partakes in, but don't go too far into the goth side. The overall image should be cute. Avoid going the wrong way by leaving the fishnet and spikes at home. Bones are acceptable, but they are better paired with flowers. (Of course.)

9. Small of stature but not small in style

Pao-Lin is the shortest of the band, and so she wears platforms to boost her up to be seen. Keep the platforms short, however. Her smallness is part of her charm. A simple pair of black platform shoes can easily be transformed into Pao-Lin's style with a strip of purple paint or purple shoelaces.

10. Get dolled up

If someone thinks you belong on a shelf behind glass, then you know your outfit is on point.
