[The first tweet is going to look utterly unassuming except for one thing: It's nothing but a video she's recorded with her phone. When it's opened there's just the image of Nariko in her room in HQ but she's wearing the exact same dress from their date. The entire video is without any real sound, and she doesn't say a word, in fact all that's really in it is one very obscene, but smooth gesture. It's modified slightly to look as if she might be grabbing something off screen but the overall premise is identical, though her smile is especially charming and therefore possibly a hundred times creepier to witness.

You fucking know, Yosuke. And worse than that, Nariko knows that you know, but you just don't want to man up and deal with it. It's why she originally didn't even say your name. But the second tweet:]

[His face twists into an expression of confusion at the video, and part of him is angry. Angry that she's mad at him for something he wasn't even sure what was going on, but at the same time he does feel a little bad. He hadn't meant to hurt her or anything, he just hadn't really known what was going on. And he got a girlfriend in the meantime...]

I mean I'm sorry I didn't hop on your dick and treat you like you don't mean anything. it's not like I've ever actually DATED anyone so that's probably why I was so 'confusing' so sue me you were my first actual real crush. I didn't know what to do and then we got busy and then there was the lockdown and it wasn't the right time for anything that could have been romantic in the first place and it's not like I didn't want to try. so yeah, I thought there was still something this whole time and that's my misunderstanding and my fault that's the truth there you go

but what is also true is that at any point you could have just mentioned it to me. whether it was ~official~ or not you could have just been like 'hey, who knows where this is gonna go but I just want you to know I'm interested in Rei too and that might go somewhere' and it would have been fine. i'm wrong for misunderstanding and putting that video up but you keep apologizing without even really seeming to mean it yosuke and that's not right either

it doesn't matter. I'll tell you the same thing that I told her: I hope you two are happy together, life's too short to not be happy.

i never meant for this post to become a whole thing, i honestly didn't think everyone would say all that and tbh they're all probably not going to do anything anyway. i just feel alone and now I want to not feel alone and that's what I asked for via twitter. that's all.

[That sure is a wall of text on his cellphone. It comes in parts, and he reads it and scrubs his face a few times in frustration. This has turned into a mess that he didn't want, and he doesn't respond right away because he goes to Twitter to see what people say. His face gets a little blue, and he's slightly frightened by how some of the others have responded to Nariko's tweet.]

Great, they're all going to murder me-! Why does this kinda stuff always have to happen to me...!

[He texts back, a little worried.]

[He lets the phone ring, because he's not sure if she's even going to pick up. He hopes that she does. His hands fidget nervously, but he really doesn't want to lose her as a friend. Especially with everything that's been going on, that would make it even worse.]

[JESUS FUCKING CHRIST WHY DOES HE INSIST ON CALLING.

She lets it ring for as long as possible, and its in the split second between accepting the call and letting it go to voicemail that she answers.]

[If it sounds like she's been crying it's only because she has.]

[That doesn't sound good. His voice is light, trying to be as delicate as he can right now.]

Yo, Nariko...I just...listen... [It's hard. She's been crying and this sucks and why does this have to be this way.]

It didn't feel right to say sorry over text. So yeah...I'm sorry. I guess I can't really say that enough. But...I can't read minds, you know? And I guess I'm so used to girls either totally being uninterested and just being nice 'cause they don't want to hurt my feelings or outright rejecting me that I thought that's what was happening. So I thought I'd already gotten shot down or else I mighta said something way long ago to you about it.

[It might not be the best apology but it's the start of one.]

[She can listen. And occasionally sniffle as quietly as would be reasonable for the situation.]

Rei's the sweetest girl in the world, though! And she's smart and witty you'll - there's no reason to not completely fall in love with her. [Ahahahaha. Hah. So this is what torturing yourself feels like!! But she's trying to not make him feel worse, okay, she's done enough of that.] You'll be really happy.

[It sucks to hear her be sad. The sniffles suck, her trying to be happy and supportive sucks even though he appreciates it, because he doesn't want her to be sad and he's sure there's not much he can do to try to make it better right now.]

Thanks...but hey, don't worry about Rei or any of that right now, okay? I'm just glad you picked up the phone so we could talk. I really didn't want to lose you as a friend over this. That woulda made this a thousand times worse. That is, if it's still cool with you.

[He still wants to be friends. ... That's probably the right, nice thing but hearing it stings.]

Yeah, of course. [She doesn't really know how they're supposed to be friends, or how it's not going to be completely awkward to hang out in any sense. Maybe he's just saying they should be friends and they'll basically never talk again. She doesn't know, but leaving it all off at a semi-decent point is probably for the best.]

I wouldn't want to not be friends.

[But she is going to go be incredibly stupid in order to hopefully bury what she used to feel so far in her brain that it might not have ever really existed!]

[He tries to sound cheery. He wants to try to get her spirits up. He may not be so cheery later if someone actually tries to come and hurt him over this later, but right now the sniffles and the sad voice on the other end of the line won't merit him freaking out angry at her. That wasn't her fault, but it didn't help that she tweeted about it.]

I mean, we've got a mystery to figure out too, so it probably wouldn't be good if we weren't speaking to each other. ...hahaha, right?

[He's a little nervous, despite all this. Girls can be Very Touchy and he is Very Bad At Words sometimes.]

[She knows he's just trying to help and it's because of that she manages to sound a little more like herself. She and Yosuke had agreed to try and figure things out somewhat logically as they went out, watching out for their Pride members as much as they could. That had nothing to do with their almost-romance and it's now timely death, but it was nice to fall back on.

It just didn't really help solve the problem.]

It'll be okay, I think it's just [The worst. The absolute fucking worst.] probably going to take time.

[How does he even say this.]

I can give you some space if you need it. I sorta know how this goes, so... [His voice trails off. He's sure he doesn't need to tell her any more than that, plus he doesn't really want to get into his multiple rejections from women.]

[What is she agreeing to? Who knows. It seems like the proper one-worded response to give so that's what comes out. Nariko breathes a little, trying to keep it the sound o fit from the phone. She still doesn't feel like herself but she doesn't have the room to feel unbelievably angry, either, so maybe it's an improvement.]

We're good, so just take care of yourself, okay?

[She doesn't know if she'll actually ever talk to him again but either way they've said as much as they can to one another.]

Yeah. You too.

[He doesn't sound too happy. In fact, he's not sure what he's just set up for themselves. It feels awkward and weird, and he doesn't like it at all. It feels reaching, but he tries for one last thing with her.]

Give me a call when you're feeling alright, okay? We can go see a movie or get something to eat.

[There's no version of this conversation that gets to be happy or smooth, Yosuke.]

I will. [She probably won't. It's difficult to imagine spending any time with him without a sense of regret or complete embarrassment.] Just - [Just don't even think about her for this interim period, or something like that. But she catches that bitter part of herself before it comes out.] ... Goodbye, Yosuke.

[She hangs up before she has a chance to regret it.]

[He looks down at the phone in his hand after she hangs up. Something tugs in his chest- the fact that she might not want to talk to him again is a thought that immediately surfaces. He hopes that wasn't a final goodbye, tucking his cellphone back into his pocket as he finds his bed and flops on it.

He thought his luck finally changed, but it turns out he's not sure if he lost a friend in this whole exchange. It's not fair, he tells himself, this is stupid and why do these things have to happen. He wouldn't give Rei up, but he sure as hell didn't want this to happen.]
