[Luci's stayed quiet on the social media front, but it's clear what she's thinking from the way she's laying on the couch and staring at the ceiling: this is retaliation. They couldn't fire Luci because all she'd done was encourage people to make music. But they could hit her band and make it look less like they were punishing her specifically.]

[What if it had been Yuffie or Xanxus? Or Alec-- which would make their sound suffer horribly. Wakana she hadn't been especially tight with (her standoffishness was hard for even Luci to penetrate), but it still hurt.]

[She doesn't even have a drink, she's just laying there, staring off into space. Some rebellion.]

[Xanxus had said he peace somewhat on the internet. He had though the fans were owed it. But that's all. He'd done his civic duty. There was just one more thing he needed to do.

He actually is surprisingly quiet for a man his size when he's trying to be. He goes behind her and towards the always fully stocked bar. He sort of sucks at being thoughtful or making things better. He's got only three answers to any problem. Fight it, fuck it, or get drunk.

He comes back a moment later, with a glass and a perfectly mixed Devil's Advocate. He just plops it next to her before heading his ass back to that mini-bar]

[Luci doesn't actually register Xanxus moving around until she hears the glass bottles being moved around. The fact that he mixed something for her is... real nice, actually.]

You don't think I got her fired?

[He probably wouldn't have mixed her the drink if he did, right?]

[He plops down on the arm of the sofa and sort of leans against his knees to stare at her. His expression is serious but also a little incredulous because he knows he's not the sort of person to generally turn to for comfort. He sucks at listening.]

No. I don't think it was you. I know they're petty fucks, but that's some kindergarten level bullshit right there. I don't know why they fired her, but I really don't think our little stunt is what did it. Because why not fire the mastermind. That's what I would do. Take out the head and the rest of the body crumbles.

So don't let them get to you, Luci. This just means fighting even harder to pay them back for taking our family away.

[He sure does suck at listening, but he also won't tell her anything but the truth. He won't spare her feelings because usually Xanxus isn't one to give a shit about other peoples' feelings. So where Yuffie would say that it wasn't her fault, and Alec would just make a non-committal noise and walk away, Xanxus would let her have it if she asked for it.]

Because they knew if they fired me, I'd find a way to make them really regret it? [Luci smirks faintly at him and reaches for the glass he left her.] And you guys would do fine without me. You'd kick more ass in my name, right? Like we're going to do for Wakana.

[ Yeah. He won't ever sugar coat things for her. Never. If he thinks she's doing something stupid, he'll let her know. She's tough. She's not going to start sobbing just because he doesn't pull his punches. He likes her because of that. He doesn't have to pretend to walk on eggshells, not that he ever really does, but with Luci, he can be even more real. ]

I could see that. You'd bring down hell on them if they fired your ass. I just hope I would get to popcorn that shit. But that right there is some bullshit. Yeah, we'd kick a fuckton of ass in your name but our sound wouldn't be the same without you. Just like it's not going to be the same without her. I mean, we need a drummer but it's like replacing a dead goldfish with a new one so the brats don't notice they lost Sharky #17.

Besides [ there's a grin ] do you really think those fucks would want Alec or Yuffie...or god help them...me front this band? No. I think you're damn safe right where you are.

[Luci sits up and cups the glass in her hands, continuing to smirk softly as Xanxus reassures her.] I'd go to every performance and clip every fucked up article if you were fronting this band. It'd be a walking disaster. [She says this in all fondness, truly.]

[She lays back, using Xanxus' leg as a headrest for the moment while she drinks.] We do have a solid, good thing going, don't we? We kicked ass at Sinammon. They couldn't get enough of us. That's not because of me, it's because of me, and you, and Yuffie, and Alec-- and Sharky #18 soon.

You're being far too nice and you know it. If I was in charge we probably would already be on "where are they now" shows. And they'd be doing innerviews with me from the state penn. [ Mostly because Luci has the biggest balls out of all of them and can and will stand in front of him and make him calm the fuck down and think things through. ]

We were the best band there. But what we gonna do about our new sharky? I don't trust them to just give us someone. I rather it be someone we know has skills. And I suppose I'll have to get out my manual too [ that's a total joke but seriously, he should come with a how to handle him manual. ]

[She barks a laugh and sips at her drink.] Orange wasn't ever really your color. If anything, I have to spare you being filmed in orange. Or with a shirt on.

[God forbid.]

Start writing, Xan, Yuffie and I have been looking at a few candidates. So far... [Luci lifts her hips up and pulls her phone out from her back pocket. She unlocks it and holds it up. There's a video on the main screen. It's Fetch.] I like her.

That second one would be a damn shame for everyone. It's a crime to cover up such art. [ Full of himself. Very much. Well deserved? Absolutely ] But I look like shit in orange. I like my black, it goes with everything and hides the blood.

[ A little shrug ] I'll have you edit before the manual goes to print. [ Then he's leaning to see the video on the phone. The rest of the band is a pathetic snoozefest. But that drummer. ] She's good. She's damn good. So you have my vote.

Great, I hope I have you when we go to pick her up, too. [Luci locks the phone and goes back to drinking.] See, I'm betting that these losers know she's the thing that keeps them vaguely interesting. They won't want to let her go. We can't send a friendly letter, I think this visit has to... have a personal touch.

Of course I would. I'd never let you guys go and raise hell without me right there to head the charge. If you leave me out, I'll just follow anyway and show up. But you're right, Luci. She's the heartbeat of her band and we're about to rip it out. They aren't going to like it but fuck them. [ So what if they're going to do to a band what Pride execs have done to them. It doesn't count when they do it. ] So, we'll get a drummer. But before that, you gotta promise me one thing, Luci.

[ It's rare that he takes on a serious tone. It sounds almost like he's used to being listened to and obeyed without question ] No matter what happens from here on out, you don't ever blame yourself for shit. Say it with me. Lucifer did nothing wrong.

[Shhh, the fact that they're basically treating this band like their label treated them is a minor detail.]

[Xanxus getting serious is kind of a surprise-- especially for her benefit. Luci blinks owlishly at him for a few beats.]

[She's leaning out the window, smoking. Her parents aren't home, they've left her. Again. There's someone on her swingset.]

[Truth be told, Luci knows when to push against Xanxus and when to obey him without question. Now is one of those times, and though Lucifer initially finds it impossible to say-- even funny-- she's going to do it.]

Lucifer did nothing wrong. [She snorts, laughing, because the phrase seems so ridiculous. Luci sobers up and looks right at Xanxus. This one is the one that's going to be serious.]

['Single child, don't act surprised.']

Luci did nothing wrong.

[ He actually smiles when his frontman does as asked. He even chuckles, laughing along with her, aware how silly that sounds. He leans in to knock their foreheads together a little. ] That's right. Luci did nothing wrong.

[ He then pulls away to lounge again. He's satisfied with that. Now he can just drink in peace. ]

[She meets him on that knock, smiling faintly and trying to parse what she just remembered-- but it doesn't make sense to her. Later. When she figures out what it means, she'll tell Xanxus.]

[For now, yes, they can lounge and drink in peace. A drummer was on the horizon, they were going forward.]
