Rockstar Killed in Bar Fight
It’s been less than a week since the music industry lost the up and rising stars of Defying Atmosphere and already tragedy has struck again. This time it was one of Pride’s artists, the cellist from the heavy metal band MANTICORE, known as Superbia Squalo. MANTICORE’s manager tweeted the news late Friday night from a Moscow hospital. Squalo had reportedly been in a bar fight and sustained serious injuries. Shortly after arriving at the emergency room doctors pronounced him dead.
According to police reports Squalo had said he wanted to see the local clubs and nightlife during his stay in Moscow for the music industry’s Worldwide Tour Extravaganza. The night of the seventeenth Squalo left his hotel room with a single body guard to tour the city at pre-planned sites. Halfway though their stops witnesses say they saw Squalo ditch his security by climbing out a window while the guard was distracted. He then made his way to a bar a couple blocks away where he reportedly bought two entire bottles of vodka and began making conversation with other customers. Nearly two hours after his arrival at the bar an argument broke out between Squalo and a couple other unidentified customers. The argument escalated to violence, first punches, then pocket knives were drawn. Squalo went down fighting, planting his own knife in one of the local customer’s shoulders. The rockstar himself sustained cuts and stabs to the abdomen and chest and collapsed after losing a large amount of blood. By then the bar owner had called for the local police and an ambulance. All three men were rushed to the hospital where Squalo passed away. The other two men are still in critical condition.
Fans are already mourning online while the public expresses mixed emotions over the young artist’s death. Squalo earned a very wild, very mixed reputation in the small amount of time his career lasted. He had just recently left an abusive relationship and was struggling to keep MANTICORE and its following afloat after the band lost multiple members over the previous months. He had a history of violence and criminal activity. Pride Records has not given an official statement regarding his death yet and Moscow police have yet to announce whether or not charges will be filed against the others involved in the fight.
