The Truth about August is Out There

by Reenie Mulger
Hue and Cry's newly adopted drummer, the ruggedly handsome August Marten, has brought the magic of his music-making to the band, filling in the void left by some departing former members. But something else seems in the cards for the scruffy but soft-spoken percussionist: perhaps his deft hands will soon offer some magic of a different kind. Recently on several occasions, the outdoorsman-like Marten has turned up in several occult book shops and witchcraft supply stores in the more magic-friendly section of Vista City, the street some folk call Vertick Ally after the wizardly shopping district in L.M. Knowles's Henry Scriever books. Seems the earthy-looking fellow's tastes run to the paranormal studies of Harry Holder, Henry Rice, and Ned and Arleen Warner in The Wizard's Bookery, and he's been seen scanning the selection of sage, incense and tarot decks in The Magick Chamber. We wonder if he prefers the Reiner-Whateley deck, or the Chromonomicon deck; a attractively rugged guy like him couldn't do better than the Nature's Realm deck. Have the mostly blond boys of H&C come across a spectral visitor in some of their venues, or have they desired a peek into their future or some helpful hints from the spirit realm regarding the direction they take in their music-making?

Perhaps he might have a source of assistance, if not a mentor in Court of Thorn's new lead singer, the mysteriously beautiful Kiernan "Sariel" Macleod. Considering that the pale man in the signature black cloaks goes by the moniker of a Watcher Angel who taught humans the arts of magick and astronomy, he may well be sharing some of that occult knowledge with the hairy human. Perhaps some more earthly knowledge is in order as well: the Watcher Angels fell in love with their human students, and considering MacLeod's broad preferences in the kind of company he seeks by night, perhaps they may be making magick of a different kind? Only time and perhaps the gents themselves will tell, but we wish them well in whatever magic they make. One wonders what the managers of their respective labels will make of this: given the rivalry between Pride Records and Virgo Entertainment, one would hope they aren't pitted together in a battle of powers as well as music.
